SINGAPORE, 28 JULY 2010 – Mr. Tan Cheng Gay, Chairman and CEO of EnGro Corporation Limited (“EnGro” or the “Group”), one of Asia’s largest producers of eco-friendly Green Cement, launched the Friends of Building Sustainability (FBS) community on the 27th of July 2010 during the FBS inaugural event which was held at the German Centre in International Business Park at Jurong East.

The FBS community’s inaugural event named the “Green Knowledge Exchange Roundtable Dialogue” saw the participation of more than 20 local companies as well as government agencies and local associations with more than 50 participants having attended the event.

Participants were treated to insightful presentations from prominent speakers covering topics related to the theme “Sustainability Development in Practice”. Dr. Song Bin from SIMTech, shared about the principle behind the development of the “Singapore Carbon Label” which is expected to be jointly launch by SIMTech and Singapore Environment Council (SEC) nearer to the end of 2010.

Dr. Edward Anggadjaja from BCA, gave an overview about BCA’s efforts in promoting sustainable construction while Mr. Wong Chung Wan from SGBC shared about the industry perspective of green building trends. “We believe in “partnership building” as the way to do business. This core principle that we adhere to is also the fundamental building blocks behind the initiation of the Friends of Building Sustainability Community (or FBS Community in short). It is hoped that the FBS community will function as a multi-stakeholder private initiative which brings together environmental-conscious like-minded companies from various sectors that are keen to go green together by learning and sharing their green knowledge and experience with friends of the community.

Climate change issues become more challenging and real for businesses. Hence, we need to see how we can optimise and use our resources more efficiently by combining efforts to implement sustainable development practices that are innovative, cost-effective and truly sustainable. With a united community approach, FBS can be used as a platform for FBS members to gain access to aggregated knowledge, experience and insights, thereby spurring more industry-led activities to boost the local green movement.”
